Historique :	Cette statue était vénérée au Moyen-Age sous le nom de 'Notre-Dame du Marché' ou celui de 'Notre-Dame de l'Apport', n'était pas une vierge noire ; elle a été noircie qu'à la fin du 16e siècle. Selon Pierre Quarré (conservateur du musée de Dijon, 1956) cette statue se rattache au type de la Majesté d'or de la cathédrale de Clermont-Ferrand exécutée avant 946, d'où dérive la Vierge en majesté de Sainte-Foy-de-Conques (Aveyron - PM12000093). Elle provient peut-être de l'ancienne chapelle Sainte-Marie élevée au nord du Castrum où s'était établi un nouveau marché.
