Historique :	Cette statue provient de l'ancien cimetière d'Echirey en 1932, ce qui explique son état actuel (présence de lichens). Selon l'historien de l'art bourguignon, Henri David dans un article publié dans les années 1930 dans la Revue de l'art, la statue qu'il date du dernier tiers du XVe s. « constitue pour la ronde bosse, le plus ancien exemple connu du retour à l'iconographie conforme aux textes primitifs », en particulier le vêtement liturgique bénédictin du Xe siècle.
