Historique :	L'église est bâti sur un site occupé depuis l'Antiquité. Le culte de saint Valentin de Griselles se développe dès le VI° siècle et conduit à la construction d'un mausolée dans la crypte et d'une basilique. Au XIe siècle, à la suite de la fondation du monastère en 1018, se développe une nécropole autour du mausolée du saint. Le culte attire encore des pèlerins au XIXe siècle. La statue présentée est une représentation du saint local due à Augustin Delaporte, sculpteur dijonnais. La sculpture est datée de 1872 et accompagne un autel en pierre avec bas-relief figurant son martyre. La réalisation de cet autel et de la sculpture démontrent un regain d'inté- rêt pour le culte de saint Valentin à la fin du XIX® siècle, dont témoigne également une première restauration du tombeau, terminée en 1865 et d’autres travaux dans l’église en 1885.
